On that wide land there is no rain,
It is my tears that waters the earth;
Ask the birds that sings of my pain,
And the land that knows of my tireless might,
He cried:
Who rises up early,
And sleeps late at night?
Who wears rags, full of filth,
That his tools may be supplied?
Who does not mightily reap
The fruits of the seed he planted?
And the birds that sings of his pain,
And the land that knows of his tireless might
Then answered:
O! Man, drink from the endless stream of life,
And eat from the endless fruits of life,
For the gods that test the limit of your might
Knows that the barreness of the earth cannot last.
